“Following my initial enquiry, I had a full telephone consultation with the Centre’s Director, and was then immediately sent their exclusive Guide to the Gastric Balloon by e-mail. I was also given the Director’s own personal mobile number in case I had any further questions ahead of my procedure. The Guide was so detailed and easy to understand that I knew that I had had all my questions answered.

On the day of my procedure, we set off at 6am, and I was in the NHS Unit affiliated with the National Gastric Balloon Centre by 9.15. My appointment was for 9.30. I met Dr Phill and all the other staff including Dr Mason. They put me fully at ease and went through the whole procedure again.

At 9.30 I went in for the procedure, which I had without any sedation at all. It wasn’t pleasant, but it wasn’t awful either. The whole thing took about 10 minutes at the most. Then I went back to the ward, and was given a drink and my further instructions, including all my medications for the whole 6 months, and my own NGBC Workbook to complete.

Forty minutes later, I was discharged, and was back in my own home by 3 o’clock. It was amazing. So simple. And they were so professional.

I was contacted by the Centre repeatedly over the next few days, and will be reviewed by them every week whilst my balloon is in, by telephone and via the internet. It’s working already. Best thing I ever did.”
