Are You A Suitable Candidate?

30% of the UK population are eligible for a gastric balloon. You are eligible
if your BMI is over 28, you are at least 18 years of age and you are ready to
comply with a serious, medically supervised programme.

So, How do I know if I am suitable for a stomach balloon?

Like everything else with the Gastric Balloon, it really couldn't be simpler!

Firstly - What is your BMI?

Simply input your height and weight, and our calculator will generate
an easy-to-read report on your general health status, based on the BMI
(Body Mass Index) formula.

The results of your calculation will display here.

If your BMI is over 28 you are almost certainly a very good candidate for a stomach balloon. Many patients with BMI’s well over 40 (or even 50) have had excellent results with this non-surgical minimally invasive medical procedure.

Next, do you suffer from any of the following?

1. A large hiatus hernia
2. Previous gastric surgery of any kind
3. Previous anti-obesity surgery such as stomach banding, stapling or bypass
4. Previous abdominal surgery with known post-operative intra-abdominal adhesions
5. Strictures of the (oesophagus) gullet or throat
6. Any inflammatory disease of the upper gastrointestinal tract
7. Any tumours of the upper gastrointestinal tract
8. Conditions or drugs that predispose you to bleeding
9. Certain drugs, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
10. Long term steroid therapy
11. Severe renal, hepatic, pulmonary or cardiac disease
12. Psychiatric disorders
13. Alcoholism or drug addiction
14. Women who are pregnant or breast-feeding

If you have said yes to any of the above, you may not be a candidate for a stomach balloon.
